FAQs

Do you need art skills to do art therapy?

  • No. Not at all. Art therapy is about the process, not the outcome.

Do I have to be able to meditate to practice mindfulness?

  • You don't need to be able to meditate to practice mindfulness. They are different. Mindfulness accepts that the mind can wander and uses the wandering as an opportunity to bring your attention to the present moment.

Do you walk far in the Mindful Walking session?

  • You get to choose how little or far you walk in the session. And you can stop at any time.

What if I start a Mindful Walking session and want to talk?

  • Sometimes a blended session is the best approach. All sessions are flexible and cater to your need.

Do I need any art supplies?

  • If you have an online art therapy session you will need to bring some paper and something you like to draw or paint with, such as crayons or pencils. You might also like to bring a glue stick, scissors, and pictures or things from nature. It's about the process, rather than the outcome so the sessions do not need many art supplies.

What happens to the artwork after an art therapy session?

  • That is decided by you. You could take it home, let it go, or frame it, depending on what you want to do with it.

Do you work with children?

  • No. All sessions are with adults over 18.

What types of approaches can be used in the session?

  • Various methods can be offered, such as:  Person-centered, Trauma-informed, Solutions Focussed Brief Therapy, Mindfulness, Qigong, and Art Therapy. The approaches used are designed as health promotion for mental health and not for the treatment of clinical mental health conditions.

Will a mental-health clinical diagnosis be given in the session?

  • No, it won't. For a mental-health clinical diagnosis, see your GP.

Are Pathways Creative practitioners accredited mental health professionals?

  • Yes. All practitioners have accreditation with PACFA or ACA.

Will the session be covered by a mental health plan?

  • You cannot claim a rebate if you are on a mental health plan as that applies to psychologists.

Can the session be claimed through NDIS?

  • The session is not part of the NDIS.

Can the session be claimed through a Health Care Fund?

  • If you belong to a Health Fund you may be able to receive a rebate, depending on what health fund you are associated with.
